YMCA Safe Place Services offers many different services to meet the needs of teens.
Since 1974 YMCA Safe Place Services has provided free 24-hour help to put a stop to unnecessary court and state placements. Our prevention work empowers teens and families to address and resolve conflicts before they escalate. However we also realize that sometimes things do get out of hand and we are here for you then too with an immediate intervention to those current issues. Our number one goal is to keep families together and provide the best tools and support to do that successfully.
Safe Place - The Safe Place Program is a network of 340 locations throughout Louisville and Oldham and Bullitt counties where teens can ask for help and receive transportation to YMCA Safe Place Services’ facility at 2400 Crittenden Drive.
Shelter House - 24 hour residential and case management support program for teens ages 12 to 17. We assist the stabilization of teens and their families by assessing their strengths & needs; providing respite, developing a plan of care to build the skills needed to improve their relationship; and supporting them through mediation services, aftercare follow-ups and community based referrals to maintain a healthy and safe home environment.
Street Outreach - Our Street Outreach Program seeks to educate and support 12 to 22 year olds that are living in unstable situations. The Street Outreach Case Manager makes referrals to these teens as appropriate, providing connection to Shelter House for 12 to 17 year olds or alternative living referrals, emergency food, clothing, hygiene or medical supplies and offers on-going case management support and sometimes mediation for 18 to 22 year olds.
Y-NOW Mentoring Program - Currently we are working with youth age 11-15 who have a parent incarcerated. This 12 month mentoring program includes a weekend workshop that is followed by 12 months of 1:1 support from an adult volunteer, and group meetings. Special activities throughout the year include fundraising, a youth trip, a lock-in, a community service project, and a graduation celebration. Upon completion, youth have the opportunity to serve as a Youth Leader supporting the next group, and/or attend alumni gatherings.
